An A-frameunder the northern sky

A private A-frame cabin for 3, minutes from the Ruka slopes — outdoor sauna, a firepit under the trees, and a loft bedroom with windows built for watching the aurora from bed.

What makes it different

Room to actually stay

Everyone comes to Ruka for the same dark, clear sky. We just think you should get to enjoy it from somewhere properly comfortable — for a weekend, not just a night.

H

A real place to stay

  • 2 bedrooms, sleeps 3
  • Full kitchen to cook a proper meal
  • Spacious bathroom, room to breathe
A

Made for the sky

  • Loft bedroom under floor-to-ceiling windows, facing north
  • Sited away from town lights, for the clearest view
  • Outdoor sauna and firepit, included

An A-frame for three, in two bedrooms. Ruka runs on snow for seven months and green trails for the rest — this cabin is set up for both, ski boots by the door in winter, hiking poles by June.

We spent a long time finding this spot: close enough to town to still feel connected, far enough out that light pollution doesn't wash out the sky. The loft bedroom sits under a wall of glass, angled north — most nights it's just stars, but on the right night, it's the aurora, seen from under the covers. Downstairs, the outdoor sauna and firepit do the rest of the work.

Good to know

Questions, answered

What are your check-in and check-out times?

Check-in is flexible with self check-in, so you can arrive whenever suits your trip — no front desk to work around.

Can I bring my pet?

Possibly — it depends on the pet and the season, so just ask us first before booking.

What's your cancellation policy?

Cancel with enough notice before your stay and you'll receive a partial refund. Exact terms are confirmed at the time of booking.

How many guests can stay?

The A-frame comfortably sleeps 3 across 2 bedrooms.

Is there wifi?

Yes — fast and reliable enough to work from, if you must.

How far is it to the ski slopes?

The nearest lift is 3 km away, about a 6 minute drive.

Is smoking allowed?

No — smoking isn't permitted anywhere on the property, indoors or out.

What's included in the cabin?

Bed linens, towels, and firewood for the sauna and firepit are all included — just bring yourself.

Is there a minimum number of nights?

Yes, a 2-night minimum stay applies.

Do I need a car?

A car gives you the most flexibility, since the cabin sits a short drive from the village for the sake of dark skies. That said, an airport bus runs from Kuusamo Airport to Ruka, and taxis are available locally.

When's the best time to see the northern lights?

Aurora season in Ruka runs roughly September to March, on clear, dark nights — most sightings happen between 10pm and 2am.

Is the loft bedroom accessible for guests with limited mobility?

Not currently — the loft is reached by stairs and isn't suitable for guests with mobility restrictions. We're building a second, single-floor cabin with wheelchair access — get in touch and we'll let you know when it's ready.
